We run two sorts of Open Award programmes for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Expedition section.

Firstly, we run full open programs including training, practice expedition and qualifying expedition. For more information about our 2011 program go down to the bottom of this page.

Secondly, If you have engaged in expedition training but need to complete a practice or qualifying expedition you could take part in one of our open award expeditions. People sometimes have to drop out of their original expedition teams due to Injury, illness, family pressures etc. If you are trained and need to join with others to complete an expedition then read on.

We will be running Silver and Gold expeditions in 2010 in the Yorkshire Dales and th Lake District.

These expeditions include no training. They are designed for individuals who, for whatever reason, could not complete their practice or qualifying expeditions as planned. We will need to see proof that you have received full expedition training.

23 - 27 October 2010 - Lake District (Book by 10th September 2010 for a 10% Discount - Closing Date for bookings 9 October 2010.

In the weeks before the expedition we will communicate over the internet to plan the route, make sure you have all the kit you need and discuss the aim of the expedition. We will meet up the previous afternoon (23 October) to refresh your memories on various essential skills and to check that the team is ready to go out on expedition.  You will then head out for the 24th, 25th, 26th and 27th October. This expedition includes no training. It is only open to those who have completed their expedition training but can be used as either a practice or a qualifying expedition.

2011 Silver Expedition Training, Practice Expedition and Qualifying Expedition programme.

For 2011 we are running a Silver open award package that will include all training and the Practice Expedition in one 6 day stint and then the Qualifying Expedition a couple of months later.

We will run 3 evenings and two days of training followed immediately by a 3 day and 2 night practice expedition. During your training you will cover all areas of the DofE expedition syllabus and plan you practice expedition. You will then immediately go out on your practice expedition. We will then say goodbye and give you a couple of months to recover, reflect on, and practice what you have learnt. We will then reconvene and complete the Qualifying expedition early in the summer.

During the training element of this course food and accommodation is included in the price. Once you are on the practice expedition (and then later on the qualifying expedition) you will have to supply your own food and pay campsite fees. There will be an opportunity to buy food the day before the practice expedition.
