2016 Scotland Vegetarian & Vegan Walking Holiday

Lupine Adventure is pleased to announce that our 2016 Vegetarian/Vegan Scottish Walking Holiday will be taking place from Saturday 18th to Saturday 25th June. Our chosen venue for our 2016 holiday is the Cairngorms National Park. The Cairngorm National Park is the ideal place to experience the best that Scotland offers in terms of magnificent mountains and scenery. The area is rich in native flora and fauna including ancient Scots Pine forests, wildcats and birds such as the rare Capercaile, Ptarmigan and Golden Eagles.

We will provide qualified and knowledgeable Mountain Leaders who will guide you on your mountain walks. Highlights of this trip will include exploring the ancient Scots Pine forest around Rothiemurchus and hopefully climbing some of the highest Scottish Mountains (four of the five highest can be found in the locality) Ben Macdui (1309 m), Cairn Gorm (1245 m), Braeriach (1296 m) and Cairn Toul (1291 m). We will certainly visit and walk around Loch an Eilein and its ruined castle. A picnic beside one of the most beautiful lochs in Scotland will create lifelong memories. A walk from Glenmore up to the Ryvoan Gap (an ancient smugglers route) and then over the wildflower rich slopes of Meall a’Bhuachaille (810 m) will end with a nice pint of real ale or a coffee in the iconic Pine Marten bar.

If by midweek you require a less strenuous day we may visit the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds reserve at Loch Garten. Loch Garten is one of the best places to watch wild Ospreys in the UK. Hunted and persecuted to near extinction in the 19th and early 20th centuries Ospreys returned to breed in Scotland at Loch Garten. The birds overwinter in Africa before returning to Scotland to breed. In spring the male must prove himself as a provider to the larger female by bringing her gifts of freshly caught fish. Seeing the Ospreys is something not to be missed on your holiday in the Cairngorms.

The town of Aviemore is home to great cafes, of which the Mountain Café is the best. There is an amazing view from its windows and normally vegan cake and plenty of vegetarian and vegan items on the menu. Aviemore also has a great swimming pool and sauna if you want to unwind.

Accommodation

We will be booking a holiday cottage in the vicinity of Aviemore. The accommodation will normally have a mix of double, twin and single rooms. We will ask you about your requirements when you book. We do not charge a single supplement to book onto this holiday. Typically our holidays are a mix of couples and individuals who want to go walking together, socialise and eat great vegan food together.

Transport

Aviemore is served by direct trains from London, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness. Arrangements will be made to pick you up from the train station in Aviemore on Saturday 18th and you will get a lift back to the station on the 25th. Alternatively you may choose to drive up along the scenic A9. If you live in the North of England we may be able to offer you a lift to and from Leeds. Ask about this when you book and we will do our best to facilitate this.

Food

Lupine Adventure prides itself on the food it serves on our vegetarian/vegan walking holidays. This is a fully catered holiday. All you have to do is sit back and eat your fill of great food. A buffet breakfast will be offered every morning. This typically consists of porridge, cereal, soya milk, toast, preserves, marmite, fresh fruit, juice, tea and coffee. You will be able to build a packed lunch with items such as salad, wholemeal bread, humus and other bean spreads, fruit and flapjack. When you get in from your days walk, typically at around 1700 you will be offered tea and cake. Whilst you are relaxing after your days walking Lupine Adventure will be cooking you a great dinner. We typically cook meals that are internationally inspired but not too spicy. Examples from previous holidays include; spinach and cashew nut wellington (served with steamed veg, gravy and roast potatoes), soya mince and kidney bean chili (served with salad and baked potatoes), daal (served with brown basmati rice, salad, vegetable fritters and pickles), veggie sausages (with mash, gravy and peas) and tofu and mixed vegetable stir fry (served with brown rice noodles, vegetable spring rolls and dipping sauce). All the food we cook on our holidays is vegan. We will provide organic dairy milk for guests if they request this but otherwise all the food we buy, cook and serve is vegan. If you have any food allergies please let us know and we will plan the menu accordingly.
