Open Bronze Practice or Qualifying Expedition

Our Open Bronze expedition takes place in Yorkshire in the countryside around Ilkley. Over the two days you can expect to walk across parts of the famous Ilkley Moor, as well as other parts of the local area.
This expedition can be done as either a practice or assessed (AKA qualifying) expedition.
This expedition includes no training. It is designed for individuals who, for whatever reason, could not complete their practice or qualifying expeditions as planned (or who have been trained by us). We will need to see proof that you have received full expedition training.
Starts: 10:00 (Ilkley Train Station).
Ends: 15:00 Ilkley Train Station.
Included in the price:
- Tents, stoves, fuel, maps, compasses and first aid kits provided.
- Personal kit available to borrow (rucksacks, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, waterproofs).
- Camping (one night).
- Support with route planning and other preparations in advance.
Walking distance: Expect to be walking around 13-15 kms each day (note this can be significantly changed to meet individual needs).
When you arrive you will meet your teammates and your Supervisor who will go through the pre-expedition checks to make sure that everyone is ready before you set off. You will walk to your campsite that day, where you will stay overnight before the second and final day of the expedition.
In the weeks leading up to the expedition you will be given a route planning task to help plan the route and to familiarise yourself with the planned route.
You will need to bring your own food for this expedition.
We are available to provide support and advice on route planning, and on food and equipment, in advance of the expedition.
On this expedition the planned routes are typically around 13-15 kms each day. If you have any questions or concerns about this expedition, please do let us know in advance. This expedition is designed to have a lot of flexibility, and distances can be significantly reduced or lengthened as needed. We aim to provide an appropriate expedition for all different needs.
This expedition includes no training. Before doing this expedition you will need to have completed your bronze expedition training.
