Open Silver Practice or Qualifying Expedition 2026

Our Open Silver expedition can be either your practice expedition or qualifying (AKA assessed) expedition. It takes place in Derbyshire, and you will journey through the Peak District countryside around the areas of Castleton, Hathersage and Edale.
Starts: 10:00. Edale Train station.
Ends: 15:00. Edale Train Station.
Included in the price:
- Tents, stoves, fuel, maps, compasses and first aid kits provided.
- Personal kit available to borrow (rucksacks, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, waterproofs).
- Camping (two nights).
- Support with your route planning and other preparations in advance of the expedition.
Minimum walking distance on longest day: 13 kms.
When you arrive you will meet your teammates and your Supervisor who will go through the pre-expedition checks to make sure that everyone is ready before you set off. The expedition will take place over three days, finishing back at Edale train Station.
In the weeks leading up to the expedition we will send all participants a route planning task, and will then compile everyone’s input to make sure that the team has an appropriate route. Advice and support is available with the route planning tasks.
You will need to bring your own food for the expedition.
On this expedition the planned routes are typically around 15-18 kms each day. If you have any questions or concerns about this expedition, please do let us know in advance. This expedition is designed to have a lot of flexibility, and we aim to shorten or lengthen these distances to make it an appropriate challenge for the group.
This expedition includes no training. If you are doing this expedition as your practice, you will first need to have completed your silver expedition training. If you are doing this as your qualifier, you will need to have first completed your practice expedition.
