Climbing Scafell Pike

Region: The Lake District (Cumbria)
The Challenge: To climb Scafell Pike (and get back down!)
Distance: 10 km from the Wasdale Head start point. Other starting points are available.

Scafell Pike is England’s highest peak at 978 metres above sea level. Ascending it is a popular walking challenge, both for superb views and the lure of becoming the highest person on English soil!

To climb Scafell Pike our usual route starts and finishes at Wasdale Head which is home to a car park as well as a pub. After meeting our guides for a safety briefing here it usually takes approximately 6 hours for a reasonably fit group to climb the mountain and arrive back at Wasdale Head. A longer (but not outragously long) route is possible from Seathwaite which is handy if you are staying in the Keswick / Borrowdale area.
